Event Photography for the Modular in Action Tour with Module
I recently had the opportunity to photograph the Modular in Action Tour, an event hosted by Module that brought together developers, builders, and industry professionals for a hands-on look at modular construction in practice.
The day started at The Lab at Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood, where attendees gathered for morning sessions focused on the realities of modular development, topics like permitting, site readiness, and construction logistics.
Learning Modular Development in the Real World
Unlike a typical conference or lecture-style event, the Modular in Action tour was designed to be highly practical. Participants were encouraged to bring a real project or development site to work through during the sessions.
Discussions covered everything from navigating permits to evaluating whether a site is suitable for modular construction. The goal was to help developers better understand the planning and coordination required to successfully execute modular housing projects.
Bus Tour of Active Modular Construction Sites
After the morning sessions, the group boarded a bus for a tour of active project sites around Pittsburgh.
These stops gave attendees a chance to see modular construction at different stages of development, from early site preparation to homes that were already beginning to take shape. Seeing the process in person helped connect the planning discussions from earlier in the day to real-world applications.
From a photography perspective, this part of the day offered a lot of great moments to document—groups walking through sites, conversations between developers and Module team members, and the scale of modular housing components being assembled.
Inside the Last Mile Facility
The day wrapped up at Module’s Last Mile Facility in Carnegie, where guests were invited to tour the space and connect with the team behind the projects.
Events like this are a great way to bring together people from across the development and construction world to share knowledge, ask questions, and see innovative building methods firsthand.
Documenting Industry Events
Photographing events like the Modular in Action tour is always interesting because it blends education, networking, and real-world construction environments all in the same day.
From morning presentations to site tours and networking sessions, my goal as an event photographer is to capture both the story of the event and the people behind it.
